Chile extends the 2014 DST

Published: 8th Mar 2014

Chile.

The Government of Chile decided to extend daylight saving time to save energy as well as to increase safety in the early evenings.

This is because during daylight saving time the sun sets an hour later than during standard time.

Chile will switch to standard time on midnight between the 26th and the 27th of April 2014.

On that moment the clocks will be moved backwards by an hour to 26th of April, 11:00 p.m. In Easter Island the time switch will occur on the 26th of April at 10:00 p.m. Last times that Chile extended daylight saving time was in 2013 and in 2012.

During daylight saving time Chile follows Chile Summer Time (CLST) that is UTC-3 and during winters Chile Standard Time (CLT) that is UTC-4.

The time followed in Easter Island during summers is Easter Island Summer Time (EASST) that is UTC-5. During winters the time zone is Easter Island Standard Time (EAST) that is UTC-6.

New DST start date

The new daylight saving time start date for 2014 in Chile is at midnight between the 6th of September and the 7th of September. This is five weeks earlier than in the original plan.
