Turkey postpones the 2014 time switch to DST by one day

Published: 1st Mar 2014

Istanbul, Turkey.

The government of Turkey decided to delay the start of the daylight saving time by one day. The new schedule for the time switch to summer time is on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 3:00 a.m. At that moment the clocks will be turned forward by one hour to 4:00 a.m.

The reason for the change of the summer time beginning date from Sunday, March 30 to Monday, March 31 is local elections in Turkey. By this modification the hope is for more people to attend the elections.

Turkey follows Eastern European Time (EET) as standard time during winters and Eastern European Summer Time during summers. The country's time difference to Coordinated Universal Time is UTC+2/UTC+3.
