Bahia to implement daylight saving time

Bahia will use daylight saving time again after a break of eight years. The governor of Bahia, Jaques Wagner, apologized to anyone who disagrees with the change and said the decision was made after much consultation.

Wagner, who is behind the change, said Bahia does not want to make trade harder by starting and ending its days at different times from most of the country. With daylight saving time, business connections will be smoother.

With the new decision, Bahia will move to summer time on 16 October 2011.^[1]

Correction, 26 October 2026: The picture's caption said "Itacarezinho beach on Bahia coast". The picture shows people practising capoeira by the sea, not that beach.

Update, 26 October 2026: Bahia used daylight saving time for only one season, from 16 October 2011 to 26 February 2012: in October 2012 the governor reversed the decision after public pressure.^[1] Brazil abolished daylight saving time by a presidential decree in 2019,^[2] and there is none in 2026/2027 either.^[3] See also: DST ends in Brazil on 17th Feb 2013.
