Morocco will continue to use daylight saving time

In Morocco the clocks go forward to daylight saving time at the end of April and back to standard time on the last Sunday of September. During the holy month of Ramadan, standard time is used.^[1]

This year the clocks go forward one hour at 02:00 on Sunday 29 April 2012, and back one hour at 03:00 on Sunday 30 September 2012.^[1]

The minister in charge of the Civil Service and the Modernization of the Administration explained that daylight saving time will make Morocco's economy more competitive through energy savings. It will save 140 megawatts at peak times, which is also good for the environment.

Update, 26 October 2026: In 2012 the Ramadan break was from 20 July to 20 August. Morocco kept using summer time, with a break for Ramadan each year, until 2018. From 28 October 2018 it kept UTC+1 all year except during Ramadan,^[1] and on 20 September 2026 it went back to UTC+0 for good, so its clocks no longer change at all.^[2] See also: Morocco's daylight saving time schedule for 2013.
