Sunday, March 10: USA & Canada will switch to daylight saving time
Spring is coming to the USA and Canada, and with it the clock change: on Sunday 10 March 2013 at 02:00 local time, clocks go forward one hour.[1]
Some areas of the USA and Canada do not use daylight saving time (DST), so their clocks do not change.
In the United States, these are:[2]
- Hawaii
- Arizona (except the Navajo Nation)
- Puerto Rico
- U.S. Virgin Islands
- Guam
- Northern Mariana Islands
- American Samoa
In Canada, they are:[3]
- Most of Saskatchewan
- Southampton Island
- Some areas in Quebec from east of 63° west longitude
- A few areas in British Columbia (the Creston Valley and part of the Peace River Regional District)
- Pickle Lake, New Osnaburgh, and Atikokan in Northwestern Ontario
Correction, 26 October 2026: The Canada list first said "East Kootenay region". It should have said the Creston Valley: in 2013 the East Kootenay changed its clocks like Alberta (since August 2026 it no longer does).[4]
Update, 26 October 2026: The US rule is still the same: clocks go forward one hour at 02:00 on the second Sunday of March; in 2026 that was 8 March 2026.[1] Canada has changed a lot: Yukon stopped changing its clocks in 2020, and in 2026 British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Manitoba and northwestern Ontario stopped too; they keep their summer time all year.[5] See also: USA and Canada move to standard time on November 3, 2013 and USA and Canada start daylight saving time on March 13, 2016.
